Project Title: Branding the Colorado Bears – Fictional College Football Team
Role: Graphic Designer

My Role:

This project challenges me to create the full visual identity of a fictional football team – the Colorado Bears. The goal is to bring this made-up team to life through professional-level branding and design assets that reflect the pride, tradition, and intensity that is shown by a college football team.

As the Graphic Designer, I will develop the team’s visual language, including logos, uniforms, and other marketing materials. I am encouraged to take inspiration from real-world programs while adding a unique and creative twist to make the Colorado Bears feel authentic, competitive, and bold.

Target Audiences:

  • Fans & Students – The designs should spark school spirit and excitement around the Bears.

  • Recruits & Athletes – Graphics should help "sell" the team as a serious, elite program.

  • Media & Press – Logos and visuals must be clean and clear enough for digital and print use.

  • Class & Instructor – The final product should demonstrate thoughtful branding and solid design principles.

Creative Direction:

  • Team Name: Colorado Bears

  • Imagery & Themes: Grit, strength, resilience, wild nature, Rocky Mountain pride

  • Tone: Bold, competitive, modern — with a nod to tradition

  • Colors: Red, Blue, Yellow, White (Colorado State Flag Colors)

  • Mascot Concept : A fierce bear rooted in Colorado wildlife culture

Deliverables:

  1. Primary Logo – Full-color version, black-and-white version, and scalable formats

  2. Wordmark – Stylized “Colorado Bears” type treatment

  3. Uniform Mockups – Home, away, and alternate jersey designs

  4. Helmet Design – Logo placement, color schemes

  5. Merchandise Mockups – Hoodies, hats, or fan gear

Tools & Skills Needed:

  • Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar design tools

  • Basic mockup templates (for uniforms, social posts, or apparel)

  • Understanding of sports branding trends

  • Strong visual storytelling and design consistency

Success Criteria:

  • Cohesive branding that feels “real” and on par with NCAA programs

  • Visually striking, clean, and usable across formats

  • Attention to detail in design choices (colors, type, layout)

  • Positive reception from classmates, instructor, and potential peer review
